Five freshmen to watch this season

The 2025 football season will mark the freshman season of the class of 2029. The 2029 class is loaded with stars from top to bottom. Last season, the 2028 class delivered big-hitters like Trace Hawkins (Calhoun), Malachi Dudley (Heritage), with many more to come. Here are five players to watch for on varsity in their freshman season.

Landon Ghea (Milton) OL

Younger brother of current Auburn tight end Ryan Ghea, Landon has quickly made a name for himself. Without even playing in a high school game he has got national attention with offers from schools including UGA. Ghea is already 6-foot-7 and is a unit on the offensive line. He will likely be a big part of whatever Milton accomplishes this season. Milton’s offensive line lost a lot of key players in its 2025 class so Ghea will need to step up early if Milton wants to three-peat.

JaCorey Shockley (McEachern) ATH

Wide receiver and corner Jacorey Shockley is arguably the best player in the state in 2029. Shockley can lock players down as a corner and already has the size to do so. The McEachern star joins a loaded McEachern secondary that will be hard to pass against. If McEachern is to win the region this year Shockley will have to step up. He was one of the top players at a camp at the University of Michigan and received an offer from the Wolverines after the visit. He is working

Jordan Peacock (Walton) WR

Peacock’s brother Christion will be his quarterback at Walton and the two will put 6A on notice. Peacock uses his size and route running ability to get open and make an impact. He has a chance to be one of the top wide receivers in Georgia in the 2029 class. He will go up against Jacorey Shockley and McEachern in the Corky Kell Classic. He shined in the Corky Kell’s 7-on-7 tournament at Georgia Tech.

Zachary Watts (Carver-Columbus) RB

Watts already holds several division one offers including the Georgia Bulldogs. Watts has a great combination of size and speed that makes him look like a baby Justice Haynes on the football field. He joins a Carver team that has one of the best offensive lines in 2A and he is a candidate to rush for 1,000 yards as a freshman. Carver is looking to go back-to-back with new head coach Jarvis Jones.

Jahlil Page (McEachern)

Page was one of the key reasons McEachern won the 8th grade championship last season. Now, he is already making plays at the high school level. The 6-foot-2 wide receiver already has the frame to be a high-level player.  Page will be a rotation with one of the best receiving cores in 6A along side JaCorey Shockley. His electric playmaking ability will be hard to stop. He recently participated in the Georgia Elite Classic in December where he showed out.
