The Buford baseball program is headed to the second round of the 2025 GHSA Baseball postseason as the Wolves have been led by stout pitching, consistent hitting and great defense in the field.
The Wolves are coming off of a sweep of Chapel Hill, defeating the Panthers in two games, 9-0 and 12-0, to advance to the next round.
Buford was the only 6A team to shutout its opponent in both games in the first round of the 2025 GHSA baseball playoffs.
One of the many bright spots for the 2025 Buford Wolves team has been senior RHP Braden Burton, as the 6-foot-5, 200-pound pitcher has been a huge part of the Wolves’ success.
In the first game of the doubleheader against Chapel Hill, Burton struck out 13 hitters at the plate, leaving the Panthers scoreless in both games on the day as the Wolves took down Chapel Hill with a combined score of 21-0 during the doubleheader.
Burton’s impressive performance comes just two weeks after he pitched his first no-hitter of his high school career against Dacula. The win against Dacula was major in helping the Wolves secure a Region 8-6A championship.
”His character and class is second to none,” said Buford head baseball coach Stuart Chester during his guest appearance on Georgia High School Sports Daily. “His ability to compete is second to none and you put that along with being able to locate and throw strikes, very seldom is he behind in the count and staying in a pitchers count helps him and he does that very well.”
Following their series sweep over Chapel Hill the Wolves are now faced with a tall task, going up against the No. 3 team out of Region 5-6A, the North Paulding Wolfpack who defeated Tift County in three games in the first round.
“We’re going to have to play a very clean ball game,” said Chester. “North Paulding is very very good in all aspects of the game, defense, offense, the middle part, on the mound, we can’t give them four outs an inning or get behind in the count. We have to play a clean game because that’s a very good program coming in here.”
First pitch between the Wolves and the Wolfpack is slotted for 4 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
