Coming off of the program’s second state championship victory a season ago in 2024, Carver-Columbus head football coach Pierre Coffey has stepped down from his role leading the Tigers football program as he is embarking on a new role in education where he will become the new principal at Stewart County.
Coffey was at the helm of the Carver-Columbus football program for the last three seasons, accumulating an amazing record of 33-8 during his time leading the Tigers.
Coffey took the Tigers to a quarterfinals and semifinals and then ultimately the championship game in 2024 where the Tigers earned their first state championship in 18 seasons since current Georgia State head coach Dell McGee took the Tigers to the mountain top in 2007. Last year’s state championship was the second in program history.
In his three seasons, Coffey won back-to-back region championships in 2023 and 2024 as the Tigers were gearing up for 2025 before Coffey accepted another role.
Coffey is the second-straight coach for Carver-Columbus to leave the school following a state championship appearance, following in the footsteps of his predecessor Corey Joyner.
Before taking over for Joyner at Carver-Columbus in 2022, Coffey held multiple prior years of head coaching experience as he recorded a 16-5 record in two seasons at Chattahoochee County from 2020 and 2021 as well as three seasons at Spencer where he went 19-15.
In his eight seasons of serving as a head coach at all three schools, Coffey made the postseason in all eight years, having the most success of his career in the past two seasons with Carver-Columbus going 24-5, winning two region titles along with last year’s state championship over Burke County, 52-14.
Carver-Columbus will now need to fill the void that Coffey left behind as the Tigers are poised to make another run at a state title in 2025.
