Class 4A Blog: The Kell Longhorns impressive offseason continues with four commitments in July

It’s been a busy month of July for the Kell football program as they have continued to shine in the few months leading up to the season.  Four Longhorns have announced where they will be continuing their football careers this month as a pair of 3-star defensive backs in Tony Forney and Jowell Combay announced their commitments along with 4-star linebacker Brayden Rouse and three-star tight end Nathan Agyemang.

All four of the Longhorns found homes in prestigious Power 4 schools to continue their football careers as Forney committed to Eli Drinkwitz and the Missouri Tigers, Combay and Rouse committed to the Tennessee Volunteers and Josh Heupel and Agyemang committed to stay home and play for Brent Key and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

The four commitments in the last week only add to the loaded senior class Kell holds headed into the new season.

Senior three-star defensive back Jalen Williams announced his commitment to Arizona State back in April as the trio of himself, Combay and Forney will make it very tough for defenses to throw on a very talented Kell secondary.

Combay will be entering his first and lone season as a Kell Longhorn as the defensive back transferred over from Harrison during the offseason.

In his junior season for the Hoyas, Combay recorded a team-high 93 total tackles and two interceptions as he will make a massive impact to the Kell secondary.

Playing corner for Kell last season, Forney recorded 30 total tackles and two interceptions, tying for a team-high.

Forney committed to Missouri last week and mentioned how the environment around Columbia and the program was a major reason to his commitment.

“What led to the decision was the relationship with all the coaches and staff and the brotherhood of the team,” said Forney. “From the time I stepped foot on campus it felt like home. We were treated like family and a big priority the whole time we were there.”

Forney is entering his second season on the varsity roster and will step into a much larger role in 2025 with the Longhorns before beginning his college career with the Missouri Tigers.

Agyemang comes to Kell this season after transferring from Creekview. The tight end played a large role with the Grizzlies last year as he finished second in receiving yardage on the team, recording 397 yards on 21 receptions and three touchdowns.

The tight end held offers from NC State, Duke and Wake Forest before ultimately deciding on the Yellow Jackets. Agyemang stated Georgia Tech stood out during the recruitment process as they helped him lay out a plan for his future.

“Georgia Tech just checked all the boxes from how they recruited me to the plan they showed me for the future,” said Agyemang. “It’s the best of both worlds. They see me as a guy who can come in and compete right away. I have built a good connection with Coach Brock and visited many times and they treat me like family every time I’m there. Coach Key and the rest of the staff are building something special and Tech is heading in the right direction.”

Kell is projected as one of the top teams in Class 4A this season with loads of talent returning to the roster including quarterback Kaleb Narcisse, 4-star running back Moonie Gipson along with the handful of commitments they have had this month.

The Longhorns know that they have more than enough talent to make their first state championship in the program’s history as they are coming off of a second round appearance a year ago.

“I think this Kell team has a chance to be special and one of the best ones yet,” said Agyemang. “There’s talent all over the roster and we’re all hard workers on top of that. We push each other daily and we all want to get better. I think heading into the season, we’re one of the best teams in the state and we’re going to show that. We are capable of winning a state championship this year and that’s the main goal.”

Kell will open up its season hosting the first night of the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic when they will face South Paulding on August 13.
