Flowery Branch hires two time state champion DC Davis Head away from Bowdon

Flowery Branch has hired Bowdon defensive coordinator David Head to fill the same role with the Falcons. Head spent the past two seasons as the Red Devils’ defensive coordinator, helping lead them to back-to-back state championships. During that span, Bowdon’s defense allowed just 17.7 points per game, including a dominant 2024 playoff run in which they held four of their five opponents under 15 points. Head brings experience from multiple coaching stops, including Pine Valley (FL), Apalachee, Central-Carroll, and Temple High School.

He will inherit a Falcons defense that, despite offensive struggles last season, held five opponents under 15 points. The unit returns four All-Region players while losing just three starters. The linebacker corps will be the strength of the defense, led by freshman standout Ryland Garrison, junior Griffin Harper, and sophomore Ashton Prehar, all of whom earned at least All-Region Honorable Mention honors. The defensive line will be anchored by defensive end Eli Pool, while cornerback Tripp Morris, an All-Region selection as a return specialist, will help solidify the secondary.

As a team, Flowery Branch is entering a new era under head coach Michael Perry, who joins the program after four seasons at Union County. With Perry and Head leading the way, the Falcons will look to rebuild both sides of the ball and make their way back to contention.
