Gainesville’s Hughley announces college commitment

Kharim Hughley, the four-star 2027 quarterback from Gainesville, recently announced his commitment to Clemson. He held 23 offers and was recently offered by the Tigers. Hughley is the third-ranked quarterback in the state and is a huge addition to a Clemson class that already features Jefferson’s Max Brown.

Hughley was offered by Clemson less than a week ago and already has decided that Death Valley is his future home. Hughley is not the first Gainesville quarterback that has gone on to the Tigers as Deshaun Watson already did that from 2014-16 (and won a national championship). Clemson also is known for another Georgia quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, back when he won the 2018 national championship with the Tigers (he went to Cartersville).

For Clemson fans wondering what they are getting in Hughley, they are getting a quarterback who is accurate (60.3% completion percentage lasts season), a player who can show up in big moments (six touchdowns against Roswell in a battle of two region foes), and is consistent (only threw for under 200 yards once in the regular season last year). He even showed out in front of many on television when Gainesville took on Westlake on Peachtree Sports Network. In the game he threw for two touchdowns in a win on the road.

He plays for one of the best programs in Georgia and is no stranger to the bright lights. He dominated in his first full season as a starter for Gainesville and threw for 2543 yards and 22 touchdowns for the Red Elephants. He will look to lead his squad to the 5A state championship this upcoming season. Him and the Red Elephants will begin their 2025 season against Marietta.

Clemson will likely be in search of a new starting quarterback after this season (Cade Klubnik is expected to leave early). Which will leave a void at quarterback for next season and Clemson could look to play 2026 3-star Brock Bradley, one of its current backups, or bring in someone in the transfer portal. However, Hughley will no-doubt be a competitive option in the 2027-28 season for Clemson.

Clemson does not offer players until they are juniors, so, they only recently started offering 2027 players. Hughley’s commitment to Clemson is only the second of the class, but the Tigers are far from done. Its 2026 class is top-ten in the country according to Rivals.
