Lee County trio update recruitments

Lee County have reached all-time heights under head coach Dean Fabrizio. Under his guidance, the Trojans have won two state championships and seven region title. They have also produced as much division one talent as almost any one in the state of Georgia.

Last season, Lee County went 13-1 and went all the way to the state semifinals before falling to eventual champions Milton. This run did not come without star power, the Trojans were loaded from top-bottom.

This season they are returning a lot of key players from last season’s run. This includes three of the best players in their class, Lasiah Jackson, Gregory Batson, and Jaden Upshaw.

Lasiah Jackson is a rising senior and is listed as a 4-star defensive back in his class. He had 11 pass deflections last season and an interception to go with it. His top four includes Georgia Tech, Stanford, Florida State, and Alabama.

He is originally from south California, but is down to make a move up north after his last visit.

“Just getting back in the air was good, it is way different then south Cali, but I loved my visit.” He continued, “I’ve had many conversations with Andrew Luck (former NFL number on overall pick and current Stanford GM), we’ve talked about the fit of Stanford and how it feels moving from so far away because he is originally from Texas.”

As for his current state, Georgia, Lasiah Jackson recently visited the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and is really enjoying his time in Atlanta.

“I probably have the best connections from all the schools with Tech, they are always calling, always checking in, I have been up here probably 6-7 times. I feel most comfortable here, and coach Peoples is the main one, he is my Guy.”

Georgia Tech’s class of 2026 is already one of the top in the country with multiple defensive back commits from the state of Georgia.

Jackson does not have a specific date for a commitment, but is planning on committing in July.

Gregory Batson is one of many players in Lee County’s loaded class of 2027 pool. Batson Jr is a 4-star recruit according to 247 Sports. Last he totaled 100 tackles with 32 of them coming for a loss.

Batson was at Georgia Tech last week for 7-on-7 and spoke highly on the Yellow Jackets.

“I have really built a good relationship with the linebackers coach Banks.”

He was offered by Mississippi State earlier this year and the Bulldogs have since gone to one of his top schools.

“It is all about relationships, I have built a good relationship with the defensive coordinator (Coleman Hultzer) and head coach (Jeff Lebby).”

No matter the school Gregory cites relationships as the number one factor in his recruitment.

He recently visited Florida this past weekend.

Another ‘27 star for Lee County is Jaden Upshaw. The wide-receiver had 842  yards and 11 touchdowns as a sophomore.

He has been contacted by a lot of schools since June 15th (when schools were officially allowed to contact players in the class of 2027), but Alabama was the first to contact Upshaw.

He also mentioned the Miami Hurricanes amongst the schools he views highly after its 10 win season last year.

“I just love the culture, the city, and you see what they did this year.”

He also spoke highly regarding potentially heading to Tennessee.

“Every time I go there it just feels like home, coach Pope and them make me feel at home.”
