With the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft over the weekend, the state of Georgia was well-represented once again as 23 kids from the Peach State saw their dreams realized as they were selected to play professional football at the next level.
In the 2025 draft there were a total of 13 defensive players taken, eight offensive players, one special teamer and one two-way star in Travis Hunter to round out the Class of 2025 draft class.
The events of this years draft began last Thursday night as three players were selected in the first round in former Collins Hill and Colorado star Travis Hunter with the second overall selection to the Jacksonville Jaguars, former Hardaway and Georgia edge rusher Mykel Williams to the San Francisco 49ers and former Jefferson and Georgia safety Malaki Starks to the Baltimore Ravens.
Jacksonville traded up with the Cleveland Browns to select Hunter with the second overall selection in this season’s draft as the team traded its first round selection this year (No. 5 pick), a 2025 second round pick, a 2025 fourth round pick and a 2026 first round pick for the No. 2 pick.
In total, out of the 23 names selected that played their prep football in the state of Georgia, seven players played their college football under Kirby Smart at the University of Georgia. Including first round selections Williams and Starks, Tate Ratledge, Dylan Fairchild, Smael Mondon, Warren Brunson and Dan Jackson found their next homes as they made it as the next class of Bulldogs to make it to the NFL.
The Cincinnati Bengals drafted the most players from Georgia high schools during the draft process over the weekend as three players are able to call Cincinnati their next home. South Carolina linebacker Demetrius Knight Jr., Georgia’s Fairchild and Clemson linebacker Barrett Carter will be heading to Cincinnati with Knight and Carter looking to provide some much needed depth at the linebacker position for the Bengals. While the Bengals led the league with three former Georgia high schoolers selected, there were a handful of other teams that selected two in the New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers.
The North Gwinnett Bulldogs had the most selections out of all Georgia high schools in the 2025 NFL Draft as Clemson’s Carter and Ohio State cornerback Jordan Hancock each found their new homes. The two former North Gwinnett players were first team All-State members during their time playing for the Bulldogs.
