Zykie Helton is set to announce his commitment to his future home later today. Helton is a four-star center according to Rivals.
Helton stands at 6-foot-3 and 300 pounds, and was a big reason why Carrollton went to the state championship last season.
He announced his top four on May 9th of Florida State, UGA, Georgia Tech, and Alabama.
Helton spoke with Score Atlanta’s Wesley Powell about the three out of the four ahead of his commitment as he said Florida State is out of his recruitment.
He was once committed to Alabama, but ended up decommitting a few months back. Helton cited a change in perspective on why he had the change.
“When I originally committed to Alabama, I had a deep respect for the program, the legacy, and everything coach Saban built. That kind of tradition speaks for itself, and it was an honor to be a part of that conversation. But over time, I realized that making the right decision is not just about football success. It’s about the fit, growth, relationships, and where I truly see myself developing over the next three-four years.”
Alabama still made the cut for his top four and is looking to add to their impressive 2026 class, which includes a 5-star prospect from Georgia in Jordan Edmonds (Sprayberry).
As for the two local schools, Georgia Tech is in Helton’s backyard and has made a big impact on him.
“Beyond academics, Georgia Tech fosters a community of passionate, driven students who challenge each other to grow. It is known to be intense, and that’s exactly why it builds leaders who can think, work collaboratively, and adapt quickly. It’s a place where you earn everything, and that work ethic stays with you for life.”
Georgia is another one of Helton’s favorites for a lot of reasons.
According to Helton, “What I like most about the University of Georgia football is the relentless culture of excellence, tradition, and pride that surrounds the program. It is more than just a game in Athens; It is a way of life, built on generations of loyalty, grit, and championship level performance.”
Whatever program gets Helton will certainly be getting someone who is primed and ready for whatever the future might hold.
Helton’s Trojans will open their 2025 season against Woodward Academy on August 15th.
