4-star safety Cortez Redding announces final four

The standout safety from Jonesboro High School is down to his final schools as he closes in on his recruitment. His final four include Miami, Indiana, Ole Miss, and NC State. Redding is set to commit on July 25th at Jonesboro Media Day.

Redding’s last official visit was to the Miami Hurricanes. Another thing to note is that one of his closest teammates Jontavius Wyman is already a Miami commit. Imagine that duo in college on the defensive side of the ball once again wreaking havoc on opposing offenses.

According to 247Sports Composite, Redding is a four-star prospect, the No. 25 safety, the No. 38 player in Georgia, and the No. 314 player nationally. Before narrowing down his list, Redding held nearly 50 offers from college programs.

The hard-hitting safety has only improved each season he has been on the gridiron. He has an elite IQ that allows him to blow up plays before they happen. Redding is the rare mix of an excellent open-field tackling safety but also has elite ball skills. You can see that when you watch his tape and his ability to track the football and go get it for pass breakups or interceptions. Coming into this season, he will be one of the leaders on the backend and an example to follow for his Jonesboro teammates.

This past season for Jonesboro Redding finished with 118 tackles, 10 pass deflections, six tackles for loss, three interceptions, and a fumble recovery. Redding had one of his best games against Harris County in 2024. In that game, he finished with 16 tackles, two pass deflections, and an interception. Those numbers helped him earn All-Classification Defensive Player of the Year by Score Atlanta back in December.

“It’s a blessing to receive this award,” he said. “I want to thank god for all my coaches, teammates, and family who motivated me and supported me through the whole year. It was a great season. I learned and grew a lot. The best part is I have another year at this and I can’t wait to see what god has in store for me! Once again thank you everyone.”

The two-sport star was running with Jonesboro at the GBCA Live Period this past weekend, where college coaches from all over come to see basketball prospects. On the hardwood, Redding is known as a great penetrator and finisher around the rim. On defense, he is physically and a really good on-ball defender, making it tough to get past him as a driver to the lane. Redding is not just a scorer but also affects the game in a multitude of ways. In a close victory over Woodward Academy, Redding finished with six points, eight rebounds, 12 assists, and a steal.

Redding is an all-around superior athlete who is excellent in multiple sports. The college he chooses in July will be getting one of the best in the peach state and the country has to offer.
